What the Tefal Dolci milkshake programme does

The Tefal Dolci milkshake programme combines milk with a frozen ice cream base to make a thick, creamy drink: the classic shake, but made from your own base. The Moulinex Dolci has the same MILKSHAKE button, because it's the same machine.

You freeze the base in the Tritan bowl for 24 hours at −18 °C. Then you press MILKSHAKE and the blade spins and shaves the block, turning it into a dense drink.

Because you choose the base, you choose everything: the sweetness, the flavour, the quality of the milk and cream. No syrups, no powders, just a proper ice cream turned into a drink.

MILKSHAKE or FRAPPE?

Both are thick drinks, but they start from different bases:

• MILKSHAKE: milk plus an ice cream base, rich and creamy.
• FRAPPE: an iced drink, for example coffee and milk or milk and fruit, lighter and more icy.

For something fresh with no milk at all, use SLUSHY.

Which base makes the best milkshake

Any balanced ice cream base works, and the flavour comes straight through in the drink. Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and coffee are the classics. Ideas from the site:

Milkshake too thick? Common mistakes

• Too thick: add a splash of cold milk and press RE-SPIN (about 1 min 30 s).
• Too thin: next time use less milk; the base itself should stay rich.

Step by step

1. Prepare a balanced ice cream base in the flavour you want.
2. Pour it into the Tritan bowl, put the lid on and freeze for 24 hours at −18 °C.
3. Fit the frozen bowl in the Tefal Dolci, adding milk as the recipe says.
4. Press MILKSHAKE and let the cycle run.
5. Too thick? Add a splash of cold milk and press RE-SPIN.
6. For pieces, add them at the end and press MIX IN.
7. Pour into a glass and serve straight away with a straw.
