Why It Happens
The motor stopping mid-cycle is the thermal protection activating. The frozen block is too hard (freezer too cold, PAC too low) or the machine ran multiple cycles back-to-back and overheated. This is a safety feature, not a malfunction.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the machine and let it cool 30 minutes.
- Leave the container at room temperature 10-15 minutes to soften the block.
- Restart with the standard program — do not force repeated attempts.
- If it stops again, the block is too hard: wait longer or check the recipe balance.
How to Prevent It
- Never run more than 3 consecutive cycles without a 10-minute pause.
- Ensure the base has 16-22% sugars for correct hardness.
- Freeze at -18 C, not colder.
- Never process a container straight from a -25 C chest freezer.

Is my Tefal Dolci broken if the motor stops?
Almost never. The thermal protection stops the motor to prevent damage when the block is too hard. Cool 30 minutes, soften the block 10-15 minutes, retry. If it stops on soft blocks too, contact service.
How many cycles can I run back to back?
Maximum 3 cycles, then pause 10 minutes. Both Dolci and Ninja Creami motors need cooling between intensive sessions.
Why does it always stop with my chocolate recipe?
Chocolate adds solids and hardness. Cocoa-heavy bases need extra sugars (PAC) to stay scrapeable — the ICED Method chocolate recipes add dextrose specifically for this.
